Closure of Osun courts making judiciary lifeless – CSO

The Osun Masterminds, TOM, a civil society organisation has lamented that the continued closure of the court in the state due to the strike declared by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has made the judiciary lifeless.

TOM also stated that the strike was mindless and antithetical to the maintenance of law and order, as well as a true dispensary of justice in the state.

This is as it also accused the state government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke of acting nonchalantly about the continued closure of the courts.

In a state of the state address by the TOM Executive Director, Prof Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, on Tuesday, the group insisted that the state government would have made all efforts to resolve issues that may have led to the industrial action.

While alleging that the silence of the state government was being seen as a tactical encouragement of the strike, TOM revealed that the state government had continued to pay judicial workers salaries and was also looking away from the current paralysis of the court system in the state.

Oyedokun-Alli, while calling for an end to the industrial action, also warned that it would not hesitate to drag all gladiators to court if the strike action lingers.

“As a group, we will not hesitate to drag the gladiators in the judicial battle before competent courts in the land if the strike persists any further.

“We advise that all concerned act now with utmost responsibility and respect for the oath they all swore.

“It is further instructive that the Osun State Government has been acting nonchalant about the continued closure of the courts.

“Where a government is not tactically encouraging an industrial action, it will be seen making efforts to resolve all issues that may have led to the industrial action in the first place.”

Newspot recalls that JUSUN in Osun State has been in indefinite strike since November, 2023, after the union accused police personnel of tear-gassing members who were picketing and protesting against the Osun Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo.
