The Editor, Sahara Reporters, New York.
Dear Sir,
In your publication dated “JUNE, 2022” and titled as indicated above, you informed your huge readership that my client, Prince Lanre A. Sanusi:
had been discovered by the Lagos State House of Assembly, in the Year 2019, to have presented “a fake academic certificate allegedly issued by a university in the united states” hence he was not cleared to become a Coan_missiener; has, lately, been “arrested” by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) “over alleged fraud”; that the arrest was “following a petition against him by a logistic company, 4runner Limited” supposedly engaged by him for the shipment of “Covid-19 materials such as face masks, and hand sanitisers … from the United States of America to Nigeria”; that “The Covid-19 materials, hand sanitizers and face masks worth millions of dollars were actually diverted from Dallas City Government Hospital in the United States with the aid of two of his friends who are truck drivers and in charge of the materials”;
Contrary to what you published, my client was at no time arrested by the EFCC or any other law enforcement agency, whether in Nigeria or abroad, and whether on a complaint alleged in your publication or any other.
Considering that your masthead indicates that you operate from New York, which is in the United States of America, you should be able to easily investigate from the Dallas City Government Hospital in the United States whether it has any case of “Covid-19 materials” that were under the charge of two truck drivers who diverted them from where they were supposed to be taken in the United States to Nigeria.
It is also a well-known fact that you have journalists located in Nigeria, and especially in Lagos. It should therefore not have been too difficult for you to confirm from the Lagos State House of Assembly if it indeed happened that my client presented any fake certificate from anywhere to that august body for purposes of being cleared to become a commissioner.
Even though these were not done before you made your publication, my client encourages you to make these inquiries and to publish the outcome in your role as well-regarded investigative journalists. This would go a long way in further enriching and enlightening your huge readership in Nigeria, especially the constituents of the Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, where my client is standing as candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Given the season we are in, you should expect that your hugely popular online news medium (like other widely-read news publications) will be targeted for use by politicians, especially of the desperate and unscrupulous class, in bidding to undo their opponents.
You can only guide against this and perform your difficult role of informing and educating the public better by endeavouring to subject whatever you receive by way of information to basic verification. My client continues to follow and wish your otherwise well-intentioned publication well.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN
