Chris Pratt’s mother-in-law Maria Shriver has defended him and told him to ‘rise above the noise’, after backlash to his latest Instagram post.

Last week, the Jurassic World star shared a tribute to his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, writing: ‘Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks at you like that!! You know!? We met in church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that’s love!

‘She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade. Her heart is pure and it belongs to me.’

While some fans thought the post was cute, many took issue with Chris’s reference to his ‘gorgeous healthy daughter’, one-year-old Lyla Maria.

The actor is also dad to son Jack with his ex Anna Faris, with the nine-year-old suffering health issues as a baby when he was born nine weeks premature.

Others accused the post of being ‘patriarchal’, due to Chris’s reference to Katherine’s heart belonging to him.

In the wake of the backlash, Maria, who had previously commented on the post ‘I can’t agree more’, told her son-in-law that he is a ‘great father to Jack and Lyla’.

The former First Lady of California, who split from Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011, commented: ‘I want to remind you today what a good man you are what a great father you are to Jack and Lyla what a great husband you are to Katherine what a great son in law you are to me and what a great sense of humor you have !!

‘I love you Chris keep being your wonderful self rise above the noise your kids love your family loves you your wife loves you what a beautiful life I’m proud of you xo.’

Chris, 42, married Katherine, 31, in June 2019, a year after they started dating, and welcomed their first daughter together in August 2020.

The Parks & Recreation star was previously married to Friends actress Anna Faris from 2009 until 2017, splitting five years after they welcomed their son Jack.

Their baby weighed just 3 pounds 12 ounces when he was born prematurely, and spent weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit.

In her book Unqualified, Anna, 44, wrote: ‘The paediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled.

‘I was in complete shock … So Chris and I did what we could, which was hold hands and hope and face it together.’

Jack now has slight vision and leg muscle issues, and lives with a non-life threatening heart condition.

Earlier this year, Anna also remarried, tying the knot with cinematographer Michael Barrett.

While Chris didn’t directly address the criticism of his Instagram post, he shared on his stories that he was feeling ‘kind of upset and depressed’ before forcing himself to go on a run.
