In a commendable display of humanitarian efforts, the 20th batch of the Chinese medical team has successfully provided free mobile medical services across three localities in northern and central Senegal from February 20 to 23. This initiative benefited a total of 1,411 residents who received care from doctors specializing in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and ophthalmology.
The team operated in the regions of Linguere and Dahra in Louga, and Touba in Diourbel, delivering not only medical consultations but also conducting health education sessions to raise awareness about emergency health issues. Furthermore, the team donated essential medical supplies to local hospitals, enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in these communities.
Aly Baidy Kane, deputy prefect of the Department of Linguere, expressed gratitude for the Chinese medical team’s contributions, emphasizing the positive impact on local healthcare. He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration, hoping to strengthen medical partnerships to benefit even more Senegalese citizens.
Yang Yiguo, head of the Chinese medical team, reaffirmed their dedication to supporting Senegal’s healthcare development, stating, “We aim to bring health and hope to more people through our expertise.”
This initiative reflects nearly five decades of cooperation between China and Senegal, with China having dispatched a total of 20 medical teams comprising 312 members, who have collectively treated over 3.5 million patients in the West African nation. The first Chinese medical team arrived in Senegal from Fujian Province in July 1975, marking the beginning of a strong bond and continuous support.
Interestingly, Nigeria has also engaged in similar collaborations with China, benefiting from various medical aid programs and infrastructural support. The synergy between Nigeria, Senegal, and China underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing healthcare challenges in West Africa.
As the Chinese medical teams continue to integrate into Senegal’s healthcare system, their efforts are recognized and appreciated by the Senegalese people, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two nations and serving as a model for Nigeria’s ongoing partnerships.
