Wayne Bridge has named the two England World Cup stars that would be ‘perfect’ for Graham Potter’s Chelsea.
Potter will look to bolster his squad at Stamford Bridge during his first transfer window in charge in January.
Chelsea initially impressed after the former Brighton boss replaced Thomas Tuchel but results fell away before the World Cup, with the Blues losing three Premier League games in a row to slip to eighth, eight points outside the top-four places.
Chelsea’s new owners spent around £250m on signings last summer but Potter will likely be asking for more cash as he looks to put his blueprint on the team.
Former Blues defender Bridge wants to see a couple of new signings arrive at Stamford Bridge and says England stars Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice would be ‘perfect’ for Chelsea.
He told Football London: ‘They’re the future, aren’t they? Youngs guys at the top of their game, great talent.
‘He’s great Jude, I think he’s probably one of England’s best players and he’s going to be around a long time. Obviously Declan, he sits in that midfield, he can make teams tick sometimes.
‘He’s playing that [Claude] Makelele-type role, he’s great defensively, he’s great at passing and he is actually technically a very skilful player as well.
‘I’ve seen stuff in training that he does with the ball – he’s a very good player and an intelligent player as well.
‘I’d like to see both at Chelsea. In the Premier League these days you need a lot of good players. You don’t need just 11 good players, you need 22, 25 players.
‘They would be perfect for Chelsea. It would be great. Especially as they’re English, when I first went to Chelsea, you get that English core.
‘It was really good from Roman Abramovich and Chelsea to get a load of English players in, it creates a good core and they seem like good lads.
‘For me, it would be a no-brainer. It’s just can you get them? There’s going to be a lot of people wanting them.’
Bellingham and Rice have featured heavily in England’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, with Gareth Southgate’s side topping Group B and facing a last-16 clash with Senegal this weekend.
West Ham midfielder Rice was asked about his ambitions as a player earlier this week and said: ‘I want to be playing in the Champions League, 100%.
‘For the last two or three years I’ve been saying that. I’ve been playing consistently well for the club and I want to really keep pushing.
‘I see my friends here winning the Champions League and other big trophies, you only get one career and at the end you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in. I’m really ambitious and I want to do that.’
