Chelsea would ‘benefit’ from signing Cristiano Ronaldo because the Portuguese superstar has a point to prove following his exit from Manchester United.

That’s according to William Gallas, who believes the 37-year-old could be a perfect short-term fix for Graham Potter.

Ronaldo left United in November after he gave a controversial interview to Piers Morgan, in which he criticised Erik ten Hag, the Glazers and the facilities at the club.

The veteran saw his World Cup dreams come to an end after Morocco’s shock win against Portugal on Saturday.

Ronaldo started the game on the bench, like he did in the previous round against Switzerland.

It continues the trend of the season for Ronaldo, who lost his place at Old Trafford before his departure.

But Gallas believes Ronaldo still has something to offer and he’s urged goal-shy Chelsea to make a move for the Portuguese.

‘What I know is Todd Boehly wanted Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad when Thomas Tuchel did not,’ said Gallas.

‘Maybe it’s a good opportunity for six months to bring Ronaldo to Chelsea. But as Ronaldo said, if he wins a World Cup, he’ll retire!

‘It would be good for Ronaldo to go to Chelsea so he can still play in the Champions League and it can benefit Chelsea too because they need a striker.’

Ronaldo has received offers from the middle-east and Australia but he’s seeking a Champions League club.

The striker was earning around £500,000-a-week at Old Trafford but he’ll have to heavily reduce his wage demands if he wants to remain in Europe.
