Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has been identified by Chelsea as a short-term solution to their problems at left wing-back following Ben Chilwell’s season-ending injury.

Chilwell, 25, is not expected to return before the end of the campaign after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Marcos Alonso has taken over duties at left wing-back since the England international’s injury but Tuchel has never been the Spaniard’s biggest fan and wants a more dynamic option.

Tuchel was keen to recall Emerson Palmeiri from his loan spell at Lyon but the move would cost Chelsea and the former Roma ace is keen to remain in France.

Chelsea are therefore exploring their options and Perisic is now being strongly considered as a short-term solution, according to the Mirror.

The Croatian was once a major target for Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho desperate to sign the winger for his delivery and crosses from the left.

Ironically, it was United’s purchase of Romelu Lukaku that made Mourinho so keen to sign Perisic as he felt the former Dortmund man would provide perfect service for the Belgian.

Perisic’s contract expires at the end of the season and Inter would likely accept a nominal fee for the winger, particularly given their financial struggles.
