The Chelsea hierarchy will undertake a season review shortly after the campaign ends to decide on Mauricio Pochettino’s future and the manager himself will be involved.

It has been a difficult first season in charge of the Blues for Pochettino, losing 11 Premier League games so far and sitting seventh in the table.

The Argentinian has had a lot of injuries to deal with, while he is also trying to create a successful team from a quickly-assembled squad of youngsters at vast expense.

However, such are the expectations at Chelsea that his job is under threat as they will finish the season without any silverware and potentially without European football next season.

There have been good signs recently, though, beating Tottenham 2-0 and West Ham 5-0 in their last two outings.

Pochettino has three more Premier League matches to take charge of this season and will be hoping to continue this good form before a crunch meeting with the club’s hierarchy.

The Telegraph report that co-owners Behdad Eghbali, Todd Boehly and Jose E Feliciano, along with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart will be involved in the season review, as will Pochettino.

Chelsea’s final game of the season is at home to Bournemouth on 19 May and the crucial meeting is set to take place in the days immediately after the clash with the Cherries.

The Blues chiefs do not want a summer of uncertainty ahead and will make a decision as quickly as possibly after conducting the review.

Chairman Boehly has been impressed with recent performances, so Pochettino will be hopeful of keeping hold of his job if he can keep up those displays.

‘We’ve seen the last two and a half games, at least in the second half at Aston Villa and Tottenham and West Ham where we played just beautiful football,’ said Boehly, via The Athletic.

‘It was so fluid, it was exactly the way we drew it up, when we came out of the back, built up and we moved up the pitch, very organised and the number of shots we had on board. In those two and a half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together.

‘Even the commentary has changed over the last two and a half games. I’ve never seen anything change so quickly.’

Pochettino has another year left on his contract, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
