Chelsea’s Mason Mount is a superior talent to Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish or Leicester City’s James Maddison, believes Phil Neville.

Mount scored his seventh goal of the season on Sunday. and it was a crucial one, as he netted in the 3-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester United at Wembley.

The 21-year-old started the game and has now made 49 appearances in all competitions this season in Frank Lampard’s first campaign in charge of the Blues.

The creative midfielder has also won his first six England caps in a superb breakthrough season for him, and now Manchester United hero Neville feels he has surpassed some of his contemporaries.

‘I put Mount in that bracket with Grealish and Maddison and I personally think he is the best out of the three,’ Phil Neville told the BBC.

Grealish and Maddison have both been linked with big-money moves this summer, with the speculation surrounding Grealish to Manchester United as rife as any at the moment.

Mount will not be going anywhere in the next transfer window as he continues his development at Chelsea and former Blues defender Ashley Cole feels he has done enough to stay in the England squad when international football returns.

‘He wants to listen, if you want to criticise him he understands it,’ said Cole, who now works as an academy coach at Chelsea.

‘He’s willing to learn. He should be around the England team. In the England team they’ve got a lot of youth, and what he brings is so much energy.’

Mount has another chance to show his class on Wednesday night as Chelsea go to Anfield to take on Premier League champions Liverpool as they battle for a Champions League finish.

The Blues are third with two games to play and are in good shape, but two defeats could see them slip out of the top four and their games are tough, taking on Liverpool and then finally Wolves.
