Chelsea sanctioned the exits of Mount and Kovacic to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively earlier this month.
The Blues have been forced into a clearout after spending £600m across the last two windows.
The club had been confident of signing Brighton star Moises Caicedo, but they’ve had one bid turned down for the 21-year-old.
That offer was thought to be around £65m, but Brighton are seeking around £100m for the Ecuador ace.
They feel this is a fair price given Declan Rice’s £105m move to Arsenal, and Caicedo is three years younger than the Englishman.
Pochettino is making no secret of his desire to sign a midfielder and the Argentine says at least one must arrive before the end of the window.
‘It depends on the situation of different players. We need at least one more and we are working on that. It depends on what happens in the next few weeks. We will decide and take our decision.’
On signing a midfielder, Pochettino said: ‘That is the idea. We are working, the club is working on that. We need to add some player there. We need one more with experience.’
