Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is no longer under consideration for the manager’s job at Glasgow Rangers, according to reports.

Rangers are on the hunt for a new head coach after sacking Michael Beale last Sunday after a dismal start to the season.

The Gers are third in the Scottish Premiership, seven points behind leaders and fierce rivals Celtic, and failed to make it to the Champions League group stage after a 7-3 aggregate loss to PSV in the play-off.

Following Beale’s departure, Lampard quickly emerged as the frontrunner for the position, with the 43-year-old said to be keen on relaunching his managerial career.

The former England midfielder endured disastrous spells at Everton and Chelsea (as an interim boss) last season, winning just two and losing 19 of his last 25 games in the dugout.

But it appears he’ll have to wait a little longer, as he’s no longer in the running for the job, with The Telegraph reporting that ‘Lampard had an initial conversation with Rangers having been open to finding out what the project was.

‘He did not have an interview and will not be part of the shortlist interview process moving forwards.’

Next permanent Rangers manager odds:

Frank Lampard – 15/8

Kevin Muscat – 5/2

Phillipe Clement – 4/1

Pascal Jansen – 10/1

Derek McInnes – 12/1

Steven Davis – 14/1

Kjetil Knutsen – 16/1

Stephen Robinson – 20/1

Oliver Glasner – 20/1

Rangers are said to be content in taking their time over appointing Beale’s successor as they look for their fourth different manager in the last two years.

Sky Sports say that former Gers defender and Yokohama F Marinos boss Kevin Muscat and ex-Monaco boss Philippe Clement are among the top candidates under consideration.

Ex-Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner, Bodo Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen and AZ Alkmaar’s Pascal Jansen have also been linked.

For now, Steven Davis is acting as interim manager, overseeing a 2-1 defeat at Cypriot side Aris Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday night, with a trip to St. Mirren up next on Sunday.
