Chelsea’s injury crisis is an ‘absolute mess’, says Trevoh Chalobah’s personal trainer Ed Hodge, who has appeared to slam the club’s medical team.

Hodge works closely with Chelsea defender Chalobah and his views on the Blues’ problems seemed to be revealed in a private conversation on Instagram, with a screenshot going viral on Twitter before it was deleted.

The west Londoners currently have several stars ruled out including Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Moises Caicedo, Wesley Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marcus Bettinelli, Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile as well as Chalobah.

Chelsea’s injury woes have caused a headache for head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has guided the Blues to just one win in his first five Premier League games in charge, which came against 20th-placed Luton Town.

‘Trev has a hammie injury… should be back to 90 per cent sprint ability by end of this week,’ Hodge said in the Instagram messages.

‘Most of the injuries are because the players have been loading muscles time and time again without lengthening them simultaneously… then one lunch into a tackle, or a COD too rapidly and they’re injured.

‘Hardly any of them do reformer Pilates or terrain work (i.e. stair sprints & hill sprints to strengthen knee ligaments). It’s an absolute mess at the moment, bro.’

The pressure is even more magnified given Chelsea’s abysmal season last term – in which they finished 12th in the top-flight without a trophy – mixed with their huge spending since co-owner Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea were the biggest spenders in the summer and splashed out £434.5m – the most spent by any club during a transfer window in Premier League history.

The Blues drew 0-0 at AFC Bournemouth last time out and return to action on Sunday when they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
