There are plenty of question marks over the Chelsea squad after their splurge in the January transfer window, but Blues hero Pat Nevin reckons the current team is ‘wild’ and says, ‘it is mental what they could go on and do.’
Chelsea certainly went wild in the transfer market last month, signing Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez at huge expense.
It was a spending spree that even the veteran defender Thiago Silva admitted that he had never seen the like of before in his career.
That came after a busy summer which saw the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana all arrive at Stamford Bridge.
With Graham Potter also a new arrival as manager in recent months it has been a time of serious upheaval under the new ownership, but Nevin believes they are now well set to achieve great things in the years to come.
The former Blues winger points to the age of many of the players in Potter’s squad and says that they could be moulded into a sensational team.
‘It’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited and “wowed” by Chelsea signings like these,’ Nevin told Football Betting Online.
‘Look how crazy this is: Gabriel Solina 18, Trevoh Chalobah 23, Wesley Fofana 22, Benoit Badiashile 21, Reece James 23, Enzo Fernandes 22, “old man” Mason Mount 24, Lewis Hall 18, Joao Felix 22, Mykhailo Mudryk 22 and Kai Havertz 23.
‘I’ve not even mentioned Carney Chukwuemeka, David Fofana, Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke… that team is wild and it is mental what they could go on and do.
‘Chelsea still have Christopher Nkunku to come too, they’re hoovering up all the best talent in the world. They might have overpaid for some players, but if only 60 per cent of the players work out, you still have an amazing base for a team.’
