Frank Lampard has ‘all the qualities’ to be a Premier League manager and it is ‘only a matter of time’ before the Chelsea legend lands another job, according to Petr Cech.

Lampard has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in January 2021. The former England midfielder spent 18 months in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat and left with the club ninth in the Premier League.

The 43-year-old worked at Derby County before returning to Chelsea and was linked with Newcastle United before they appointed Eddie Howe, and Aston Villa before they appointed his ex-England team-mate Steven Gerrard.

Lampard is believed to be on Norwich City’s shortlist to replace Daniel Farke, but whether he would be interested in taking over the struggling Premier League club remains to be seen.

Cech insists he is ‘not surprised’ Lampard has been linked with so many jobs since his sacking from Chelsea and says his former team-mate can be a successful manager in the Premier League.

‘He has all the qualities to be a Premier League manager,’ Cech told talkSPORT.

‘If anybody is interested and anybody comes to speak to him, if they have the right project for Frank, he loves football and loves coaching with the same passion he had for playing.

‘I’m not surprised his name is coming up now and it will only be a matter of time before he returns to the Premier League.’

Lampard’s uncle, Harry Redknapp, claimed his nephew was interested in taking over at Aston Villa before they appointed Liverpool legend and former Rangers boss Gerrard.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the ex-Tottenham and QPR coach – who gave Lampard his debut as a player at West Ham – said: ‘The Aston Villa job, for sure, is one that would interest him.

‘It’s been a funny old time,’ he added. ‘Dean Smith getting the sack at Villa, I was disappointed to see that one.

‘He did a great job there, real Villa man, loves the club. A bit like Chris Wilder when he left Sheffield United.

‘I think it’s been difficult. Grealish went, how do you replace him? They were almost a one-man team when I saw them last year, he was so good.

‘The people who have come in haven’t hit the ground running and I think he [Smith] needed more time. But the job is up for grabs and there will be plenty of people interested. Villa is a great club.

‘Norwich is also a smashing club run by good people. So they’re two good jobs for somebody.’

Lampard’s successor at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel, guided the club to Champions League glory last season and an FA Cup final.
