Chelsea are considering a move for Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as Kepa Arrizabalaga agrees a season-long loan to Real Madrid.

There is something of a goalkeeping merry-go-round going on at Stamford Bridge, with Edouard Mendy already leaving earlier in the summer and Kepa now also departing.

Real Madrid are in need of a new ‘keeper as Thibault Courtois has suffered a serious knee injury, so they are bringing in the Spain international from the Blues on a short-term deal.

Chelsea have already signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25m and it appears that he will go straight into the starting line-up when they take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the Premier League.

They will need another stopper in the squad, though, and The Guardian report that they have turned their attention to something of a Premier League icon.

Schmeichel is now at Nice, moving their from Leicester City last year having won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Foxes having spent over a decade with the club.

The Denmark international made 46 appearances in his first season with Nice, but the report states that the French club are willing to let him go after a mixed campaign in terms of performances.

Schmeichel would almost certainly go to Stamford Bridge as back-up for Sanchez, but would bring with him an enormous amount of experience and quality, although he will turn 37 in November.
