Noni Madueke admits the Chelsea dressing room was ‘silent’ after the draw against Sheffield United while Mauricio Pochettino has given an injury update on Cole Palmer.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw against the side sat at the bottom of the league after conceding a goal in the 93rd minute as their miserable season continued.

That result left Pochettino furious as he hit out at his team’s maturity and suggested that he may need until 2029 to fix the west London club’s problems.

Madueke has now opened up about the mood among the players following the poor performance at Bramall Lane.

‘Silent [in the dressing room] to be honest,’ Chelsea star Madueke told the BBC. ‘Of course we should have won the game. The way we drop points sometimes, it was in the palm of our hands.

‘There is still games to go, we have to stick together and I have faith we can finish in the places we want to finish in. There is some positives for sure, but this is our Achilles heel, the next game after a top result – we haven’t been able to do well in that department so far.’

Meanwhile, Pochettino has provided an update on Palmer – Chelsea’s best player this season by a mile – after he was subbed off and replaced in the 74th minute.

Asked if Palmer had picked up an injury in his post-match press conference, Pochettino said: ‘No, no, no. I think he was tired.

‘My feeling was he was tired. Carney [Chukwuemeka] is another number 10 who can play there and do the job.

‘We need to protect him. He got a knock against Manchester United and was a bit more tired than normal. We wanted to protect him after scoring the second goal – trying to avoid a problem in the future.’
