Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has singled out three Liverpool players, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Fabinho for praise after the trio helped the Reds keep a clean sheet in their Champions League 2-0 victory against Inter Milan on Wednesday night.
Ferdinand said Van Dijk, Konate and Fabinho were immense for Liverpool against Inter Milan at San Siro during the Champions League round of 16 first-leg tie.
Liverpool defeated Inter Milan, thanks to two goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle, Ferdinand said: “I think 2-0 probably flatters them a bit, but you take that.
“I think the bedrock of most performances away from home at this stage of the Champions League is a good defence, and that was proven today.
“The two centre-backs [Van Dijk and Konate] were immense, Fabinho in front of them as well…”
Meanwhile, former Liverpool FC star and fellow BT Sport pundit Michael Owen also chimed in to offer his reaction after the game, praising the defensive side of the Reds’ game.
Liverpool will face Inter Milan in the return leg at Anfield in March.
