The delegation of the National Association of Gum Arabic Producers, Processors and Exporters of Nigeria (NAGAPPEN) led by His Royal Majesty Eze Chidume Okoro paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Export Promotion Council Barrister Segun Awolowo at the Export House, Abuja on Thursday 10 June 2021.
His Majesty on behalf of the delegation delivered an incredibly enlightening presentation on Gum Arabic- Medium Term Gum Arabic Development Strategy: 2021-2030.
Gum Arabic Development Barrister Awolowo observed: “is not just remarkably profitable but it’s in line with key Sustainable Development Goals as it mitigates the risks of climate change and desertification resulting in an attraction of carbon credits for Nigeria.”
He sad gum was an 85% female dominated business “it promotes the inclusion of Women and youth, the driving force of any economy.”
Barrister Awolowo said thepresentation was indeed an eye opener for him noting that ” Gum Arabic is a Sahel Product mostly found in Borno and Yobe State. Up until 2013 Nigeria was the Second largest producer of Gum Arabic in the world generating millions of dollars in foreign revenue.”
“Now is the time to reinvigorate Nigeria’s Gum Arabic production for international Export. A project of this magnitude will require the synergy of key public and private sector players at NEPC that is willing to play its part in supporting this development.
