Carlo Ancelotti is not in favour of Real Madrid signing former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to replace Thibaut Courtois, according to reports in Spain.

Madrid have been forced to enter the market for a new goalkeeper after Courtois suffered a cruciate ligament injury during a training session on Thursday.

The 31-year-old is due to undergo surgery and is expected to miss the majority of the upcoming campaign.

According to Cadena COPE, De Gea has been considered by Madrid’s hierarchy, however, Ancelotti is unconvinced by United’s former goalkeeper and would ‘veto’ the signing, even as a free transfer.

The report claims that Sevilla goalkeeper Bono is one of the names at the top of Madrid’s shortlist, however, the Spanish club face the prospect of losing the Morocco international to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili is also on Madrid’s shortlist after being one of the standout goalkeepers in La Liga last season.

De Gea, meanwhile, is still searching for a new club after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer.

The 32-year-old was unable to agree a new deal with United after 12 seasons at Old Trafford.

United have since replaced De Gea by signing Andre Onana in a £47.2 million deal from Inter last month.
