CAF Confed Cup final: Orlando Pirates bank on Ndah for home support in Akwa Ibom

Orlando Pirates coach, Fadlu Davids hopes the presence of Olisa Ndah can help tilt support in favour of his side in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup against Moroccan club, RS Berkane on Friday.

The final of the 2022 edition of CAF’s second tier club competition will hold at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, home ground of Ndah’s former club Akwa United.

Ndah was a key part of the Akwa United side that won the Nigeria Professional Football League title last year before securing a move to Orlando Pirates.

The talented centre-back also earned his first international cap with the Super Eagles, against the El Tri of Mexico during his time with the Promise Keepers.

The 24-year-old linked up with Orlando Pirates in August 2021 and has kicked former Bafana Bafana captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo out of the team as he partners captain Happy Jele in defence.

“We are quite happy because it’s a neutral venue. If the final was in Morocco, it would have been a different story. So we are quite happy,” Fadlu was quoted by

“I urge the Nigeria supporters to come and support us. Their prodigal son, Ndah, returns to their stadium. We are playing at the Akwa Stadium where he won the league before joining Pirates. We hope the Nigerians will get behind us at the stadium.

“We hope to have the extra 12th man in the stands at the stadium. So, we are hoping that they come out in numbers. A neutral venue could become our home ground. So, we are quite happy with the venue,” he said.

To reach the final, Orlando Pirates defeated Libyan club Al Ahli 2-1 on aggregate.

RS Berkane on the other hand edged out DRC outfit TP Mazembe 4-2 on aggregate.
