Buhari off to Gambia for Barrow’s inauguration — Nigeria — Newspot – Nigeria and World News

At the behest of Gambian President, Adama Barrow, President Muhammadu Buhari, will today, depart Abuja for Banjul, to attend the ceremonies as Special Guest of Honour. The event is also to be graced by other African leaders at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

Nigeria’s first citizen, along with other Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders, played a key role in the restoration of democratic rule in The Gambia in 2017 after the former President, Yahya Jammeh, refused to surrender power after losing the election.

A statement yesterday by Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that the President would be back in the country at the end of the inauguration.

He is being accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Geoffrey Onyeama; National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd); Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, and other top government officials.
