British tennis star Liam Broady has playfully called Andy Murray a ‘cry baby’ after the 37-year-old broke down in tears at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

Broady and Murray are close and regularly tease another across social media with the former spotting a golden opportunity to wind up his friend on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old walked past a screen showing highlights from Murray’s second-round men’s doubles win at Roland-Garros, which took place on Tuesday night.

Broady took a picture of the screen the moment Murray was seen sobbing in his chair as the victory was confirmed, posting it with the caption: ‘What a cry baby.’

He signed off his X post with a smirking face emoji, in a sign that the interaction was just another bit of fun between the duo and certainly not anything malicious.

‘It’s unbelievably emotional,’ Murray said after he and Dan Evans booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles on the Roland-Garros clay courts to once again slam the brakes on his upcoming retirement.

‘You’re obviously unbelievably happy and then for whatever reason, you’ve got happy tears I don’t know why that’s the case.

‘I was really emotional at the end of the match – extremely happy, excited that we managed to get through with another amazing finish. It takes a lot out of you so I’m glad we get a day off tomorrow.’

Broady and Murray have been trying to one-up each other on social media for a while now, very much to the amusement of tennis fans.

In June, a grumpy Broady posted: ‘First match at 10am today so have to warm up at 8:30.

‘Breakfast doesn’t open till 9am? Walked into player area and we’ve got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta.’

Murray replied: ‘Hope you are ok mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn’t checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done.’

Broady then wrote back: ‘You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man you’ve never checked a situation ahead of time in your life. We are not the same!’
