Thomas Frank felt Brentford’s defeat at Manchester United showed how brutal football can be, feeling the result was unfair on his side.

The Bees looked likely to pick up an impressive three points at Old Trafford after Mathias Jensen gave them a lead after just 26 minutes and they were still ahead as the clock ticked past 90 minutes.

However, substitute Scott McTominay scored twice in stoppage time, with his second in the 97th minute securing the most dramatic of victories for the Red Devils.

Frank is leaving Manchester with nothing but felt that his team deserved at least a draw for their efforts.

‘Football is brutal in moments like this,’ he said. ‘I think we did so many things right, coming here to Old Trafford, almost perfect first half, pressed high, good on the counter and well deserved lead.

‘Of course second half you know you will be put under pressure here. I actually felt like we defended it very well, and didn’t give any big chances away… well until the third minute of injury time.

‘Then of course to lose the game is even more brutal. At least a draw was probably a fairer reflection.’

Asked if result was unfair, Frank said: ‘I think it was.’

The Brentford boss was philosophical, though, keen to keep the result in perspective.

‘People in the world have worse situations than we have,’ he said. ‘It is good to put it into perspective sometimes.’
