PITUFFIK, GREENLAND – April 10, 2025 – In a swift and high-profile military decision, Colonel Susannah (Susan) Meyers, commander of the 821st Space Base Group at Pituffik Space Base, Greenland, has been relieved of her post by Space Force leadership for what has been described as a “loss of confidence in her ability to lead.”

The dismissal follows a controversial March 31 email sent by Col. Meyers to personnel stationed at the Arctic base, in which she appeared to distance the unit’s mission from the current U.S. administration’s stance on Greenland. Her message, issued in the wake of a visit by Vice President J.D. Vance, expressed concerns over the political tone of the visit and emphasized unity across the multinational team of Americans, Canadians, Danes, and Greenlanders stationed at the base.

“I do not presume to understand current politics,” Meyers wrote, “but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base.”

The Pentagon swiftly responded after the email was reported by Military.com. Colonel Kenneth Klock, commander of Space Base Delta 1, officially removed Meyers from command, citing the military’s obligation to remain nonpartisan and uphold the chain of command.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell emphasized the gravity of the breach:

“Actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated at the Department of Defense.”

Colonel Shawn Lee has now assumed leadership at Pituffik Space Base.

This incident comes just days after the dismissal of Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her role as the U.S. Military Representative to NATO in Brussels, allegedly for failing to display official portraits of President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The events have raised renewed discussion on the balance between military professionalism, personal expression, and political loyalty in a deeply polarized environment.
