The entire 26-man England squad is involved in an open training session on Tuesday afternoon, including Luke Shaw, who is closing in on a return from injury.

The Manchester United star has not played since February and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate admitted it was something of a gamble to take him to Euro 2024 this summer.

However, with a severe lack of options at left-back, Southgate did pick the 28-year-old and there have been promising signs that he will be able to play a big part in the tournament.

Shaw is now thought to be in contention to be involved in the second group game against Denmark on 20 June and certainly for the third clash with Slovenia and then the knockout stages.

With all 26 players in an open training session in Jena on Tuesday, including Shaw, the optimism over his involvement grows further.

Kieran Trippier is due to start at left-back against Serbia in the opener on Sunday night and could retain his place in the starting XI against Denmark.

It is a muscular injury Shaw is recovering from and there will be caution over not rushing him back too quickly in fear of reaggravating it.

There had also been fitness concerns over the likes of Bukayo Saka, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Lewis Dunk, but all are involved in training on Tuesday, as is Jude Bellingham.

The Real Madrid superstar missed both pre-tournament friendlies after Champions League glory at Wembley but is now back in training with his international teammates.
