Book Launch Ceremony for High Chief Gabriel Akin-Deko’s Autobiography Set for February 2025

The family of the late High Chief (Dr) Gabriel Akin-Deko invites the public to the much-anticipated launch of his autobiography, “I DRINK FUTURE.” The event will take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Queen’s Park Event Center, situated at the end of Corporation Drive, Trinity Ave, off Ligali Ayorinde Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of the Board of Directors at NNPC Limited, the ceremony promises to be a remarkable occasion that celebrates the life and legacy of High Chief Akin-Deko. The event will feature His Excellency, Chief Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, as the guest of honor, alongside distinguished senator Dr. ‘Femi Okurownmu, who will serve as the book reviewer.

Born in 1913, High Chief Akin-Deko was a multifaceted personality whose contributions to Nigeria span education, agriculture, and sports. His tenure as a student and later a teacher at Government College, Ibadan, laid the foundation for his disciplined and impactful career. He served as the Chairman of Idanre District Council and Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria’s first cabinet under Chief Obafemi Awolowo, where he earned the title “King of Farmers” due to his significant contributions to the agricultural sector.

High Chief Akin-Deko was also a trailblazer in sports, being the founding chairman of the National Sports Commission and the first African representative in the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization. His influence extended to various academic institutions, where he was appointed Pro-Chancellor of both the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Additionally, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, the current President of the African Development Bank, has also been recognized for his contributions to Africa’s development and will be in attendance as a special guest.
