In a disturbing development from San Leandro, California, authorities are investigating the discovery of a body wrapped in plastic at a homeless encampment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) made the grim finding on Wednesday evening near Interstate Highway 238.
According to official reports, CHP officers responded to a call at approximately 7 p.m., leading them to an encampment situated near the Hesperian Boulevard/Spring Lake off-ramp. Upon arrival, they discovered a body concealed in plastic sheeting.
Investigators are yet to determine whether the plastic wrapping was placed by another individual or served as a personal covering. The identity of the deceased remains undisclosed pending further investigation.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office has taken charge of determining the cause of death, as questions surrounding the circumstances remain unanswered.
