Blackpink star Lisa stressed the importance of highlighting her Thai heritage in her new solo music.

The rapper revealed that she pushed to include Thai elements in the single Lalisa as a nod to her roots.

The K-pop star is the third member of the K-pop group to release solo material after Jennie and Rosé. The album, which also includes the hip-hop inspired B-side Money, has scored over 800,000 pre-orders in South Korea, a record for any female K-pop artist.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press in an online conference on Friday, she said fans ‘won’t be disappointed’ with the look and tone of the title track.

‘I was talking to [producer] Teddy Park and wanted to put a Thai vibe in my song, and he came up with an arrangement that had the perfect Thai mood. I loved it,’ she said.

‘I put on a Thai traditional costume – I wanted to do that in the music video. I told the director and the end result is marvellous.

She also revealed how the members of her group supported her as she created her solo single Lalisa.

Jennie and Rose along with Jisoo, made her feel ‘reassured’ during a long shoot for the Lalisa music video.

Asked about any pressure she felt as the next Blackpink star to strike out on her own, Lisa shared: ‘Jennie and Rosé did such a great job I also wanted to carry on and show my energies.

‘All the members came to set to cheer me on, even when it was very late they stayed on. It felt reassuring that they had my back.’

Blinks, the name for Blackpink’s fans, will no doubt be wanting to see how the idol will look without the iconic bangs she is known for, as the Kill This Love hitmaker teased a new style.

‘I wanted to show people a new side of Lisa,’ she explained, adding she was ‘involved directly’ with the styling for her album cover.

‘When we were shooting the album cover, I unveiled my hair without bangs – I’d never done that before!’ the rapper said.

‘It took a lot of resolve. It was a surprise gift to my Blinks.’

Lalisa is out later today.
