Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stakeholders in Benue have announced a decision to boycott the upcoming state congress of the party scheduled to hold on October 3.
This was disclosed during a world press conference on Wednesday by the Concerned Benue State PDP stakeholders in Makurdi.
The statement was read on behalf of the stakeholders by former Speaker pro tempore of the House of Representatives, Chief Terngu Tsegba.
According to him, PDP will be violating a subsisting court order restraining it from conducting the state congress of the party if it goes ahead to hold any congress.
Chief Tsegba said: “A High Court sitting in Makurdi has granted our prayers and issued a restraining order stopping PDP from conducting local government and state congressess in Benue State.
“The judge has transferred the case, being a vacation judge, to the Chief Judge of Benue State who is yet to assign the case to another judge so the injunction still stands.
“However, quite seriously and dubiously too, the Damagun-led NWC has moved against this order by announcing that the Benue State PDP congresses should hold on October 3rd.
“This is a total violation of the court order and we are calling on all patriotic and law abiding members of PDP to ignore this announcement and wait for the court decision on the Benue PDP Congresses.
“We also want to use this medium to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC,of this illegal action by the Damagun-led NWC.
“We also want to notify security agencies in Benue State that the action of the NWC of the party constitutes a breach of the law.
“We also want the whole world to know that any activity in Benue with the semblance of a congress by the PDP is an attempt in futility.
“As law abiding members of the PDP, we remain loyal to the party and stand only for the truth, fairness, justice and laid down rules of the party as provided in our constitution 2017 as amended.”
