A United States-based scholar, Joseph Sarwuaan Agba, has penned an open letter to the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia calling for an investigation following the allegations of corruption and nepotism against the State Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese.
In the letter, a copy of which was made available to Newspot on Tuesday, Agba expressed his displeasure over the series of allegations levelled against the office and person of the Chief Judge.
The US scholar warned that the allegations, which started as beer parlour talks in small circles and slowly found their way to the broadcast media, can lead to a loss of total confidence in the state judiciary.
He, however, urged the governor to initiate an investigation into the allegations without further delay to determine the innocence or otherwise of the judicial officer in the eyes of the storm.
The letter added, “Recently a group of Benue indigenes abroad, known as Benue Diaspora Vanguards had cause to also petition the National Judicial Council, NJC, Independent Corrupt and other Offences Commission, Department of State Services, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on the same subject matter.
“In view of the grave nature of these allegations, His Excellency may, in keeping with his vow to sanitise the state, initiate an investigation into the allegations without further delay.
“Your Excellency may wish to note that the responsibility of all the arms of government in the state rests on your shoulders and Benue people look forward to your definite action on this very important subject matter”.
