Stakeholders from Apa and Agatu local government areas of Benue State have called on the Federal Government to take decisive action to put end renewed attacks and killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the two local government areas.

They made this call at the weekend as part of the resolutions reached during security meetings convened by the Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Standing Committee on National Inland Waterways, Hon. Pst Ojotu Ojema at Och’Idoma Palace Otukpo.

The lawmaker, irked by the incessant attacks and killings by the marauders, upon returning from the United States of America, convened separate security meetings with stakeholders from Agatu on Friday, May 17 and that of Apa on Saturday May 18, 2024.

In a unanimous resolution, stakeholders from both Apa and Agatu LGAs appealed to the Federal Government to quickly nip the renewed insecurity in the bud, saying many lives have been lost and properties worth billions of naira have been destroyed.

In Ojema’s speeches during the separate meetings, he thanked all the stakeholders for responding swiftly to his call despite a short notice.

He said the wanton killings and destructions in Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency have defied all efforts or solutions and have persisted for too long, hence the need for a paradigm shift, thus his reason to convene the meeting.

A minute silence was observed in honour of those who lost their lives and prayers were offered for security, peace, unity and development of Apa and Agatu LGAs.
