The Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof Mala Mohammed Daura, has charged the newly elected Executive members of the Students’ Union Government, SUG, to avoid unguarded utterances about the activities of the university on social media platforms.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge on Friday while inaugurating the new executive members of the union at the Geidam Hall of the University.
Prof Daura, who was represented at the event by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Sani Isa, expressed his dissatisfaction over the abuse of social media by some students.
He said it’s good for students to always seek clarification through the appropriate channels of communication in the institution to avoid sharing fake news and hate speech that could implicate them.
The university’s Acting Director of ICT, Idi Mohammed, admonished the students to properly apply for the NELFUND loan, noting that some students were making mistakes in their applications.
In their separate remarks, the Head of the Geology Department, Prof Adam Zarma, and his counterpart from Public Administration, Hadiza Mali Bukar, charged the students to concentrate more on their studies than on student unionism.
