Bayer Leverkusen have already secured silverware this season, and they just added another prize to the collection.

Xabi Alonso’s side became the first team in Bundesliga history to go a league season unbeaten as they clinched their first-ever league title last month, and now they can also call themselves WWE Champions.

To celebrate Bayer’s history making run, which was cemented with a win over Augsburg on the final day of the season, the wrestling juggernaut has sent the club a custom title belt.

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque is now head honcho and chief creative officer years after retiring from in-ring action, and the WWE legend paid tribute to the club’s achievement.

‘Congratulations to @Bayer04_en on becoming Bundesliga Champions for the first time ever after an incredible, historic UNDEFEATED season,’ he tweeted.

‘Time to celebrate like the champions you are… good luck in tomorrow’s German Cup final, and we’ll see you this August for #WWEBash In Berlin.’

In a video holding the gold, a beaming Robert Andrich said: ‘Hey Triple H, thank you for this one! Shout out to WWE and all the German fans.’

In the league, they finished on 90 points with 28 wins and 6 draws, 17 points ahead of second-placed Stuttgart, with the title wrapped up last month.

They lost to Atalanta in the Europa League Final on Wednesday, but a win over Kaiserslauten in tomorrow’s final could add more silverware.

WWE is taking over the Mercedes-Benz Arena for Bash In Berlin later this summer for its first ever premium live event in Germany.

The special show on August 31 will be preceded by SmackDown at the same venue on the previous night, and Austrian wrestler GUNTHER – who rose to prominence on the German independent scene – is expected to play a key role.

‘I’m very happy and proud to be able to do my part there,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk.

He teased: ‘What predicament will I be in? I don’t know yet. But obviously I aim to be in one of the most important matches.’
