Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Wednesday swore in eight new commissioners as part of efforts to revitalize his administration’s operations.
Governor Mohammed reiterated that it is a regular policy of his administration to reshuffle the state cabinet periodically to enhance its efficiency in policy development and execution.
After the new commissioners were confirmed by the State House of Assembly, the Governor revealed that five commissioners had been removed from the cabinet, with eight new appointments made.
“Two of the newly appointed commissioners will replace the former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Aminu Hammayo, who has now been appointed Secretary to the State Government, and the late Aliyu Ahmed Jalam, who was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs until his passing,” the Governor stated.
He also noted that one of the new appointees would oversee the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the five commissioners who were removed, emphasizing that their departure was not due to any shortcomings in their integrity or competence. Rather, he explained, it was a matter of aligning the right people with the right roles, adding that some of them would be considered for future appointments as special advisers.
The new commissioners and their portfolios are as follows: Alhaji Usman Usman Shehu, Ministry of Information and Communication; Iliyasu Aliyu Gital, Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, Ministry of Livestock Development; Hon. Isa Babayo Tilde, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Prof. Titus Saul Ketkukah, Ministry of Works and Transport; Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, Ministry of Youth and Sports; Abdullahi Mohammed, Ministry of Land and Survey; and Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam, Ministry of Education.
Additionally, the Governor redeployed several current commissioners: Amina Muhammed Katagum moved from the Ministry of Land and Survey to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning; Ibrahim Gambo Galadima from the Ministry of Works to Internal Security and Home Affairs; Mohammed Salis Gamawa from the Ministry of Youth to Commerce, Industry, and Investment; and Engr. Binni Abdulkadir now heads the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation.
This reshuffle follows the Governor’s decision on January 7 to remove five commissioners as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery to the people of Bauchi State.
