Bauchi State House of Assembly, on Thursday, said it will strengthen its engagement with the executive arm of government.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman made this known while answering questions from journalists on the sideline of the ongoing two-day orientation training on oversight roles, organised by Bauchi field office of the USAID-funded State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness (State2State) programme.
According to him, the training programme had shown disturbing indices in critical sectors, including healthcare services, basic education, water, sanitation and hygiene and public financial management.
The Speaker asserted there was the need for involvement of State and non-state actors with a view to mitigating some of the trends enumerated in those critical sectors.
Sulaiman assured that the Assembly would devise an evidence-based approach to oversight functions to draw the State executive arm’s attention to the critical sectors as they affect human development.
Speaking earlier while welcoming participants to the programme, the Bauchi State Team Lead of State2State Activity, Mrs Rabi Ekele disclosed that the training was organised for the lawmakers in order to engage and acquaint them with activities of USAID State2State and other flagship interventions of USAID.
She added that the capacity-building orientation programme would further afford the lawmakers to know the current status of Bauchi State in the critical areas.
