On January 11, 2025, a group of bandits launched a violent attack on Tattara community in Panda District, Karu Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State.

The attackers killed seven people and injured many others, who were taken unawares. The number of confirmed deaths stands at seven, though many others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The attack follows a series of disturbing violence that have taken place in northern states like Kaduna and Katsina. It has made people raise eyebrows on the issue of growing insecurity in the region.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria condemned the attack almost immediately. In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Onuk Oji Galadima, he extended deep condolences to the families of victims of the “senseless attack” on innocent citizens.

Dr. Galadima called for a collective response in condemnation of such brutal violence, hence charging citizens to rise up against such bestial criminal acts. He further emphasized that attacks on unarmed civilians are unacceptable and must be denounced by all.

The NYCN Chairman also called on the government to take immediate action to secure communities and ensure the safety of citizens.

He called for increased efforts by the security forces to avert similar attacks in the future and bring the culprits to book.

Apart from government intervention, Dr. Galadima emphasized that vigilance on the part of the public was also very important.

He urged the people to show concern for their neighborhoods by reporting any suspected activities that could help contain the increasing attacks.

Finally, he pleaded for support for the affected families and communities.
