The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expressed concern that nobody is being prosecuted for fixing N19.33 billion in an interest-yielding account at the detriment of Kogi State workers.

Isah Abubakar, President of the group, in a statement noted that the group has received the news of the payment of the sum into the account of the Central Bank of Nigeria with mixed feelings.

“On one side, we are happy that the conscienceless leaders who fixed the money in an interest yielding account didn’t succeed in their evil against the people of Kogi; while on the other hand, we are particularly sad that nobody is facing the law for the wickedness meted on the long-suffering Kogi workers,” it said in a statement.

The youths lamented that many who couldn’t endure the embarrassment of not being able to meet their families’ needs opted to commit suicide, saying, “Their blood will be asked from the hands of those involved in this money heist.”

The Council, however, commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for locating the funds in Sterling Bank.

The statement further called on the EFCC to track the over N666 million that left the account, suggesting that those involved in laundering the money should be arraigned before a law court without delay.

The group also claimed that the Chairman of the EFCC is under pressure to discontinue the court case against Governor Yahaya Bello and others in his cabinet, saying, “We want to counsel him to keep his fate with the people and write his name in gold by bringing the robbers of Kogi wealth to justice, as we will ensure that this case won’t be thrown in the Dustbin like other graft cases.”

It said it is of the belief that those who shared in the accrued profit from the fixed amount and the unaccounted N666 million would certainly cough it out and have their place in any of the newly constructed prisons by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
