A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and a presidential hopeful, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has described former heads of state, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and General Abdusalami Abubakar as patriots and leaders of immense vision.
Anyim, also a former President of the Senate, said this when he was received by the two Nigerian leaders at their Minna residences in Niger State.
Disclosing the outcome of their meetings via a statement sent to Newspot on Sunday, Anyim, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ebonyi State, said that the meeting offered him yet another opportunity to x-ray the state of Nigeria with leaders of immense vision.
He partly stated, “On Thursday, 2nd December 2021, the topmost presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Distinguished Senator Anyim Pius Anyim (GCON) met with former Nigeria’s Head of State General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and General Abdusalami Abubakar in their home.
“The visit which lasted for hours was believed to be in line with the nationwide consultation ahead of the 2023 general election.
“I have received in a private audience by two of our nation’s most esteemed leaders and patriots, their excellencies, Alhaji Abdulsalami Abubakar (GCFR) and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. I am enriched ad grateful.”
Anyim had vowed to make the teeming Nigerian youthful population the core of the country’s quest for nation-building and development
He stated this in his speech on behalf of the other recipients of the 2020 Zik Awards.
He also said that the country requires a leader who could connect and engage with the people, particularly the youths.
“We need leaders that must connect and engage with the people especially the youth. Such leaders must place the youth at the centre of every nation-building effort to move them from the current valley of despair to the height of their potentials,” he said.
“We need leaders that can build societal consensus, repair our broken social fabrics and show deep empathy for all Nigerians that are suffering deprivation, poverty, and want of any kind. Our leaders must be skilled in the science and art of good governance.”
