The Osogbo Action Committee has been advised not to incite the people against the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The group was also advised to put an end to the falsehood being spread around that the Oyetola administration intends to dethrone the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan in a statement, stated that the letter to the governor asking him to stay action on a non-existent process is not only mischievous but also a wicked one.
Omipidan also alleged that the letter was deliberately designed to pitch the people against the governor and his government by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had allegedly masqueraded as community leaders.
In his words, “The author of the letter, Chief Ajadi Badmus, has unfettered access to Mr. Governor. If indeed he has the best of intentions, he ought to have found out from the governor before making his spurious claims.
“Recall that Chief Badmus had also authored a similar letter shortly before the July 16 governorship election wherein he claimed that the government had relocated the Air Force Base from Osogbo to Iragbiji. The wicked lie became the major weapon the PDP agents deployed to canvass for votes in Osogbo and its environs.
“Ordinarily, the Ataoja is directly under the supervision of the Osogbo Local Government. Therefore, the governor has no business per se with his office. Besides, the governor has no issues with Ataoja.
“To this end, I appeal to leaders of thought and clerics in Osogbo to endeavor to find out the truth, know the truth and act based on the truth.
“I also urge the people to disregard the content of this fallacious letter as it does not fit the gentleman’s personality of a governor Osun people and the nation know too well,” Omipidan said.
The Asipa of Osogbo, Chief Ajadi Badmus had on Wednesday on behalf of Osogbo Action Committee written a letter intimating the State governor of plans to dethrone the Ataoja of Osogbo.
Badmus also warned that implication of such a move can only be devastating and could stand to deface all the fantastic works Governor Oyetola has done.
According to the letter, “I am extremely constrained to write to you about a heart-wrenching news that plans are being hatched to dethrone the Ataoja of Osogboland – the Custodian of cultures and heritage of Osogbo.
“Your Excellency Sir, initially I took this news with a pinch of salt however, I became uncomfortable when the news would not abate hence, I was reminded of the saying ‘in every rumour, there is an iota of truth’.
“In as much that I am not aware if HRM has defaulted in any of his responsibilities as a traditional ruler, I am of the view that even if HRM did something that was displeasing to Your Excellency, there are lots of highly places Osogbo indigenes who are your personal friends and hold you in the highest esteem that you could have called to on the matter.
“As a real and traditionally groomed Yoruba man, the implication of such a move can only be devastating and could stand to deface all the fantastic works you have done as the Governor of Osun State.
“It is my prayers, however, that the news remains the rumour I thought of so that the good name you have worked tirelessly to etch in the lives of every Osun State people and particularly indigenes and people of Osogboland would remain evergreen.
“Despite the frosty relationship between Your Excellency and HRM, I believe that it could be resolved while normalcy returns.”
