The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reiterated his commitment to restructure the country if voted in to power in the forthcoming elections.
” if restructuring is the number one priority of the people in the South West, I will implement it. I will constitute a committee on the amendments of the constitution which would be presented to the National assembly for deliberations and consequent ratification.” Atiku pledged.
The Presidential candidate stated this in Ibadan on Thursday 19th January 2023 at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Southwest Development Stakeholders Forum ( SWDSF) held at the Jogor Event Centre Ibadan.
Atiku, while highlighting his major areas of focus as President said the unity of the country was very sacrosanct and lamented the level of disunity created by the present APC administration.
He said ” APC has destroyed our unity as a nation. Today,the country is divided as separate entity among the North and the West. I will address this issue because the unity of the country is very sacrosanct ”
On the issue of security and the call for local and state police, Atiku reiterated his support for their creation . He said “we shall support the creation of local and state police ”
On infrastructure and other social developments Atiku said ” I will implement private sector to allow the economy thrive”
On the entourage of the Presidential candidate were Alhaji Nnamadi Sambo, a former Vice President of Nigeria , Dr Iyorcha Ayu, the national chairman of PDP, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Senator Philips Aduda, Senator Dino Melaye, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide among many other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, in their separate remarks the chairman of SWDF Mr Alao Adedayo and the Director General Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, (DAWN) Mr Seye Oyeleye emphasized the imperativenes of SWDF at this point in time to voice out the agenda and the expectations of the people of the South West from the incoming administration.
Members of The South West Development Forum Planning Committee include Mr. Alao Adedayo the Chairman, Sir Gbenga Adebusuyi, Otunba Deji Osibogun, Prince Kayode Adeyemi, Reverend Muyiwa Bamgbose. Others are Akinrogun Akintayo Akin-Deko, Senator Tokunbo Ogunbanjo, Dr. Yemi Adegoke, Mrs. Foluso Oyenuga, Deacon Owolabi Oladejo, Mr. Ayo Ayorinde, Barrister Femi Oniyide, and Alhaji Olalekan Ajia.
The SWDSF includes the Yoruba World Centre, ODUACCIMA, Egbe Omo Yoruba in North America, Professional Women’s Group, Yoruba Ko’ya Leadership & Training Foundation, Majeobaje, Oranmiyan Hunters Association, Farmers Groups, Town Development Unions, Chambers of Commerce and Diaspora associations.
