Mykhailo Mudryk got Arsenal fans excited after sharing footage of him watching his potential new club’s Boxing Day win over West Ham.
The Shakhtar Donetsk winger has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s No.1 target for the January transfer window after a series of outstanding performances for the champions of Ukraine.
Reports earlier on Monday claimed that, after months of mounting speculation, that the Gunners had submitted their first formal offer for the 21-year-old.
Arsenal are keen to win the race for the Ukraine international and according to Sport Arena, the Gunners have submitted a ‘very worthy’ opening offer to Shakhtar.
The Athletic subsequently reported that Arsenal’s offer for Mudryk is worth €40 million (£35m) up front, plus an additional €25m (£22m) in add-ons.
Shakhtar are holding out for a larger offer but the player gave indication of his intentions by dropping a subtle hint on Instagram, sharing footage of Eddie Nketiah’s game-clinching goal.
The current Premier League table toppers had fallen behind in the first-half to Said Benrahma’s 27th minute penalty after William Saliba had brought down Jarrod Bowen.
It was only the third time Arsenal had trailed this season but in front of former manager Arsene Wenger, back at the Emirates for the first time since his departure in 2018, they launched a spirited second half comeback.
Bukayo Saka drew his side level just eight minutes after the re-start when he collected Martin Odegaard’s scuffed shot and rolled the ball beyond Lukasz Fabianski.
Spurred on by a raucous home crowd, Arsenal took the lead just before the hour mark when smart approach play saw Granit Xhaka tee up Gabriel Martinelli and the Brazil international’s low shot beat Fabianski at the near post.
The victory which helped open up an seven-point lead at the summit was wrapped up with 20 minutes remaining more intricate pass saw Odegaard release Nketiah and, after rolling his marker, the striker steered his finish into the far corner.
