Darren Bent has urged Arsenal to go out and sign Yves Bissouma this month, insisting the Brighton midfielder is ‘gettable’ during the January transfer window.

Arsenal’s lack of options in midfield have been exposed in recent weeks with Granit Xhaka, who recently tested positive for Covid, and summer signing Albert Sambi Lokonga currently Mikel Arteta’s only senior options.

Like Gunners pair Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, Bissouma is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali.

But once the competition finishes, Bent would relish the chance to see the Brighton man head to north London where he believes he can form a fearsome partnership with Partey.

‘I would like to see Arsenal go and get Yves Bissouma from Brighton,” he said on talkSPORT.

‘I really like him, I think he’s a top, top player. I think he’s gettable as well.

‘Him and Partey in the middle of the park, that is what you call protection in front of the back four by the way.

‘You let the likes of [Emile] Smith Rowe, [Martin] Odegaard bomb forward.

‘If you can Yves Bissouma, I think he can turn into a top player in this league, I really do. I really like him.

‘He’s one of those players that can be box-to-box but if you ask him to sit there, he’s comfortable in possession. Yeah he’s a top player.’

Brighton have reportedly set a £50 million asking price for Bissouma, who has also been targeted by Manchester United and Liverpool.

According to The Athletic, Brighton are intent on keeping one of their star men for the remainder of the season.

But an offer of £50m could be enough to convince them to sell as the midfielder prepares to enter the final year of his contract and could leave for free in 18 months.
