Ex-England star Paul Robinson has tipped Aaron Ramsdale to join Chelsea or Liverpool this summer as Arsenal prepare to offload the goalkeeper.
Despite Arsenal challenging for the Premier League title, Ramsdale endured a frustrating campaign, starting just 11 games in all competitions as he played back-up to David Raya.
Ramsdale impressed throughout the 2022-23 season but Mikel Arteta still decided to sign Raya from Brentford last summer and make the Spaniard his No. 1 at the Emirates Stadium.
Given Ramsdale’s pedigree – he is viewed as one of the better goalkeepers in the Premier League and is an England international – Arsenal accept they will likely have to sell the 26-year-old this summer.
Newcastle United have been linked with a move but Robinson cannot see that materialising as Eddie Howe already has another England international in Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka at St James’ Park.
Instead, Robinson has tipped Chelsea and Liverpool to make moves for Ramsdale, who he believes ‘deserves’ to move to another Premier League club after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal.
Enzo Maresca is said to be keen to sign a new goalkeeper as he prepares to take over at Chelsea, while Liverpool may be in the market for a shot-stopper if Alisson’s deputy Caoimhin Kelleher leaves.
‘I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale will move abroad, I think there’s a move for him in the Premier League,’ Robinson told Football Insider.
‘The one that stands out is Chelsea. Petrovic and Sanchez don’t seem to be at the level you want. That’s where Chelsea are at.
‘You look at other teams in the Premier League and he’d fit into most teams. I can’t see Newcastle happening with Pope there. Would Brighton be interested?
‘If Kelleher leaves Liverpool, there’s an opportunity for him to go and be a number one with Alisson.
‘Look at the amount of games Kelleher has played this year, compared to Ramsdale, there’s an opportunity there to have more game time and prove himself.
‘Aaron Ramsdale has got to go somewhere and he’s got to play. He’s been harshly treated at Arsenal. I think the way Arteta handled the situation was wrong.’
Arsenal are looking for around £30m for Ramsdale, a figure that has reportedly put off potential suitors Newcastle.
