Mesut Ozil appears to have confirmed that he has parted ways with Adidas, with the Arsenal star showing off a new pair of classic Nike boots on Instagram on Thursday.

Reports last month claimed Ozil had been ‘dumped’ by the sportswear company due to concerns about his public image and the ongoing coronavirus crisis – though that was dispelled by his agent.

The German playmaker’s deal with Adidas has expired, though, meaning he has needed to find a new pair of boots to wear should he be called into action this season.

So far Ozil has not played a single minute of football since the Premier League season restarted, once again failing to even make the matchday squad against Norwich on Wednesday evening.

Should he step out on the pitch in any of Arsenal’s upcoming games, though, he looks set to be wearing a rare pair of classic mismatching black, white and gold Nike Vapor boots, showing his Instagram followers his new kicks on Instagram – and holding them over the Adidas logo on Arsenal’s training top in the process.

The Nike boots may only be a stopgap, though, with Ozil’s agent recently revealing that he intends to develop his own M10 brand and eventually wear those for the remainder of his career.

‘There is no termination,’ Ozils agent, Erkut Sogut, told The Athletic in June. ‘The contract is running out.

‘It’s like any other contract agreement or contract you have with a club — like if Mesut’s contract runs out with Arsenal next year, Arsenal wouldn’t say one month before they were dumping him.’

He continued: ‘Mesut will be 32 in October. He knows if he signs another two or three-year boot deal now, it could last for the remainder of his active playing career.

‘For him, it’s not about the money — he wants to use that time to help build his own M10 brand. After this contract, he doesn’t have to wear something just because the sponsor says.

‘Maybe he’ll wear Puma for a couple of days, then one day, Nike; maybe a brand from Indonesia or Malaysia. Who knows? It’s up to him now. There are some classic boots from the past he wants to wear.’
