Arsenal ‘share in the shock and sadness’ of Daniel Anjorin’s death at the age of 14 and are planning a tribute ahead of their match against Bournemouth.
Anjorin, who was an Arsenal fan, was tragically killed in a sword attack in London on Tuesday after a man crashed his van and stabbed five people in Hainault.
The late teenager’s school, Bancroft’s, said he was a ‘true scholar’ who had a ‘positive nature and gentle character’.
Arsenal are now planning a special tribute ahead of their next fixture, a Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates on Saturday.
‘We share in the shock and sadness of Daniel Anjorin’s death earlier this week,’ Arsenal said in a statement.
‘With his family’s blessing, we will make a tribute to Daniel shortly ahead of kick off tomorrow.
‘We ask all supporters to pay their respects to Daniel with us in this moment.’
Arsenal have reportedly been in close contact with the police family liaison officer working on the case to offer the victim’s family their support.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Bournemouth fans have united on social media and have made plans to provide a minute’s applause in the 14th minute of the game.
‘Of course we will join in,’ one Bournemouth supporter, @TommaxMw, posted on X. ‘What is this country coming to. It’s unbelievable what’s happening on our streets.’
Arsenal supporter @davidcarrol1 added: ‘RIP Daniel. [The] Arsenal family will always remember you, little Gunner.’
Daniel was a pupil at private school Bancroft’s in Woodford Green, the same school in east London attended by Grace O’Malley-Kumar, a medical student who was murdered in a knife attack in Nottingham last summer.
In a statement on its website, independent school Bancroft’s said: ‘We are devastated by the heartbreaking news of the death of Daniel Anjorin, who attended our school. This has left us in profound shock and sorrow.’
