The 23-year-old made his first Premier League start of the season on Saturday as Arsenal sealed a 5-0 win over Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.
Smith Rowe was expected to keep his place in the team for the Gunners’ trip to West Ham, however, the midfielder failed to make the squad due to a knee problem.
‘We have an issue with him,’ Arteta said before kick off.
‘He felt something in his knee and started to feel some pain after the game.
‘We are assessing him but a bit worried with him.’
Smith Rowe’s injury will come as a further blow to Arsenal, who are set to be without Gabriel Jesus for the whole of November.
The Brazil international suffered a hamstring injury in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Champions League last week and subsequently missed the victory against Sheffield United.
Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey also remain sidelined for Arsenal.
