Ian Wright says he is ‘nervous’ watching Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka play because Premier League teams are ‘kicking him to bits’.

Saka has been one of Arsenal’s most important players this season, starting all 13 of the Gunners’ league games, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

His form has helped Arsenal enjoy their best ever start to a league campaign and move two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Saka will soon turn his attentions to England’s World Cup campaign, having helped the Three Lions reach the Euro 2020 final in the last major men’s tournament.

Arsenal legend Wright has become increasingly concerned about the rough treatment Saka receives from opponents and claims only one player has been booked for a foul on the 21-year-old.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: ‘We’ve got to talk about Bukayo Saka. People will say, “oh they’re just trying to protect him”. The man is getting kicked to bits man.

‘It’s horrible. I’m nervous when he’s playing. You know when you have your best player in the team and when it goes down you’re worried. I’m literally like that every time. It’s a worry.

‘There has only been one booking for the challenges there have been on Saka this season. Just one!’

Saka will not be the only Arsenal player in England’s World Cup squad, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and defender Ben White expected to be named in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Arsenal travel to Wolves this weekend looking to remain top of the Premier League during the mid-season break for the World Cup.
