Arsenal’s ‘focus’ for the summer transfer window has been revealed amid talk of a big signing so they can close the gap to Manchester City.
They have narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to City two years in a row but Mikel Arteta is convinced that Arsenal will challenge again next term.
Before the 2024-25 season gets started, though, Arsenal will look to strengthen their squad and some have suggested they may splash out on a marquee player.
Arsenal forked out £105m to sign Declan Rice from West Ham last summer but anyone anticipating a similar level of star coming in will be left disappointed.
That’s according to the latest reports, which claim that Arsenal are not looking to bring in a ‘big signing’ or ‘make a huge financial transfer’ this time around.
Instead, Arsenal’s ‘focus’ will be spreading the cost around and making subtle changes to improve the squad, suggesting they may target cheaper players.
Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas feels his old club need to recruit a top-class striker in order to leapfrog Pep Guardiola’s men.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright, meanwhile, believes the Gunners need a new right winger, centre-back and midfielder.
It is thought that Arsenal are keen to sign goalkeeper Justin Bijlow as they seek a replacement for the outgoing Aaron Ramsdale.
Joshua Zirkzee is also on Arsenal’s shortlist but they face a battle with several other sides to recruit the Bologna striker.
Thierry Henry is worried that Arsenal may suffer from a drop-off next term after two gruelling seasons in which they have fallen short to City.
‘One thing that worries me, is that every time a team tries to stay with them (Man City) and keep the pace, they burn their wings,’ Henry said.
‘Every time they implode. Look at Liverpool. They couldn’t deal with it. I hope Arsenal can stay in the rhythm because it is not easy.’
