Arsenal supporters were livid after Trent Alexander-Arnold only received a booking for a nasty-looking challenge on Bukayo Saka in the second half of their clash with Liverpool.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the 20th minute of Wednesday night’s encounter at the Emirates before goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson put the hosts in front going into the break.

Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure on the touchline for much of the first half and Liverpool’s players made a statement of intent as they returned to the field early for the second 45 minutes.

However, Alexander-Arnold may have been a little to eager to get into the game and flew in on Saka which left the Arsenal youngster writhing around on the turf in agony.

Earlier this month, Eddie Nketiah was slapped with a three-match suspension for a mistimed tackle on James Justin during Arsenal’s draw with Leicester – and Alexander-Arnold’s challenge on Saka was not dissimilar.

But referee Paul Tierney only withdrew a yellow card from his pocket which provoked an angry reaction from Arsenal fans across social media.

The sound of Alexander-Arnold’s boot making contact with Saka’s leg echoed around the stadium and replays of the incident suggested the full-back was fortunate to still be on the pitch.

Here’s how Arsenal supporters reacted to Alexander-Arnold’s challenge…
