The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday inaugurated members of the reconciliation committee set up to resolve the political disagreement between Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

This came barely 24 hours after the embattled deputy governor urged the Chief Judge of the state, Olusegun Odusola, to ignore the directive of the House of Assembly to set up a seven-member panel to investigate him.

Aiyedatiwa is under the threat of impeachment by the House over allegations of gross misconduct and has been served with notice of the allegations levelled against him by the lawmakers.

But the deputy governor obtained an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the lawmakers to suspend the process.

The growing tension among party members in the state forced the leadership of the ruling APC to inaugurate a reconciliation committee to end the impasse between the governor and his deputy.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee headed by former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, Ganduje emphasised the need to ensure a sound working relationship between the governor and his deputy.

He said, “We are interested to see that there is a peaceful coexistence and a good working relationship between the governor of Ondo State and his deputy.

“To see how we can solve this problem, it is important to set up a reconciliation committee. A reconciliation must consist of people who have relevant experience, and cognitive knowledge on the issue before us.”

Masari assured that their intervention would resolve the issue between the two leaders amicably.

Among other things, the committee is expected to interface and engage with all contending parties to gather facts and circumstances surrounding the lingering impeachment process of the deputy governor and advise the party on the most amicable ways of handling the issues in one week.
